Chinese President Hu Jintao will visit eight African countries from January 30 to February 10, to further strengthen Sino-African relations after the Sino-African Summit in Beijing last November. The eight nations are Cameroon, Liberia, Sudan, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique and Seychelles.

On January 26, 2007, the reporter from People’s Daily interviewed the Embassy of Cameroon in China Eleih - It Etian in Beijing.

Question: Can you give us the political achievements, economic and social changes in your country over the last fifteen years?

Answer: These fifteen years behind, our country has experienced significant achievements in each of the sectors that you mentioned. Thus, politically, one of the major achievements has been the liberalization of the political landscape including the establishment and strengthening of democracy. This resulted in the regular holding of presidential, legislative and municipal strengthening of peace as a value common to all Cameroonians, the preservation of security within our borders and protect the integrity and all of them. This is the opportunity to congratulate the happy ending the border conflict between us in neighboring Nigeria, and thank the people and Government of China for the understanding and support we have been granted for the peaceful settlement of the dispute with Nigeria, brother and friend countries. We welcome and with the Government of Nigeria to give the world a wonderful lesson for the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Economically, the major component has been achieved during the year just ended, the completion point under the HIPC initiative. This result, while it strengthens our international credibility, we can better plan our development goals. And to make the best advantage, our country has engaged in a resolute struggle against corruption and embezzlement of public funds. It has also acquired new machinery for this purpose.

Regarding the investment climate, Cameroon has adopted a new investment code designed to encourage and increase foreign investment in our country. To ensure the smooth running of business, a new legal framework has been developed to ensure the legal and judicial security of investments.
