Beijing, Shanghai and Mumbai join the world league of wealth
Big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Mumbai, with emerging markets in those rapidly developing countries such as China and India join the lists of the richest cities in the world by 2020, according to forecasts of firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) published on Wednesday.
The study predicts that by 2020 there will be five mega cities with populations exceeding 20 million inhabitants: Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Mexico City, Sao Paolo, New York and Tokyo which contain more than 35 million people.
PwC said that the mega cities are comparable in size to the economies of its own. Tokyo and New York have a GDP surplus of 1.1 trillion U.S. dollars - making them as large as Canada or Spain, the fifth largest economy in Europe.
