Low consumption of Chinese people in cultural

The Chinese people spend too little for cultural products, according to a report on the development of cultural industry in China, published Tuesday, February 27.

The report jointly published by the Academy of Social Sciences of China and a research institute affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, the total volume of trade in cultural products of China reached 468.5 billion yuan (about 60 billion dollars) in 2006.

“Compared to the national GDP (gross domestic product) of 20 940 billion yuan (2 700 billion) in 2006, consumption of cultural products is really low,” the report said.

China is behind other countries in terms of cultural consumption, “the report adds,” the consumption of cultural products from China accounted for a quarter of that of other countries with similar level of development ” concludes this report.
