A comprehensive network of assistance to disabled people throughout China by 2010
China will have around 2010 of a comprehensive network of services to aid the disabled, said January 23 the Federation of the Disabled in China.
China now has 82.96 million disabled people, representing over 6% of its population. Even today, approximately 200 municipalities and 400 districts have no service for the disabled. Furthermore, when present, these services are either insufficient or limited to some needs only.
Under the “Project to create local general services for the disabled ‘established by the Chinese government, the central authorities will expand their investments and allocate special money for the creation of comprehensive services for disabled people in western and central China. It is simultaneously promoting development assistance to disabled and the economic and social progress.
