Norwegian aid in clean energy to developing countries

Norway has pledged to grant 30 million NOK (5 million U.S. dollars) over three years to the Partnership in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) to help countries poor to increase the use of clean energy, said on Thursday information from Oslo.

projects assisted include Norwegian water pumps powered by solar energy and insulation of houses in poor areas, according to a press release issued by the Norwegian government.

“It is important to help poor countries to better use what little energy they have,” said Norwegian Minister of International Development Erik Solheim.

REEEP is an international alliance of governments committed to reducing carbon emissions, improving energy security and access to clean energy. It is particularly active in China, Brazil, India and South Africa.
