Decline in annual inflation to 2.1% in the EU27 and 1.8% in the euro area in January
The annual inflation rate of the European Union (EU) 27 member countries fell to 2.1% in January 2007, against 2.2% in December 2006, according to statistics released Wednesday by Eurostat, the Office Statistics of the European Communities.
According to the same statistics, the annual inflation in the euro area decreased to 1.8% in January 2007 against 1.9% in December 2006.
In January 2007, the inflation rate the lowest were observed in the Netherlands (1.0%), Malta (1.2%) and Finland (1.3%), and higher Hungary (8.4%), Latvia (7.1%) and Bulgaria (6.9%).
Compared to December 2006, annual inflation rose in eleven Member States, remained stable in one and fell in fifteen.
The average rates over twelve months to January 2007 were the lowest in Poland and Finland (1.3%) and Sweden (1.5%) and highest in Bulgaria (7 , 4%), Latvia (6.5%) and Romania (6.2%).
