Muslims celebrate the feast of sacrifice in China
Muslims in China on Sunday celebrated Eid al-Adha, or feast of sacrifice, on the eve of New Year
Over 3 000 Muslims, including diplomats and nationals of Islamic countries in Beijing, met Sunday in the Niujie Mosque in Beijing to mark the feast.
Eid el-Adha, which falls on December 31 this year, is celebrated by more than 9.8 million Muslims in China.
Eid el-Adha, also known as Eid el-Kebir in the Uygur language, is a four-day festival, which marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Sheep are slaughtered to commemorate the sacrifice of Abraham, who was about to sacrifice his son when God, having found his obedience, arrested his arm and gave him a sheep to slaughter instead.
