Ukrainian parties form an opposition bloc in Parliament
The opposition leader of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and the leader of Our Ukraine Party, Viktor Baloga, signed an agreement Saturday in Kiev in order to form an opposition alliance in parliament.
This agreement is a strategic document that sets guidelines of both parties whether opposition parties or have a majority in Parliament in the future, Tymoshenko said, quoted by news agency Ukrainian national.
Under the agreement, a coordinating committee composed of 12 members be formed to run the block, “said Tymoshenko.
Five major Ukrainian political parties, namely the Our Ukraine party of President Viktor Inoutchenko, the block of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Socialist Party, the Party of Regions and the Communist Party, were elected to Parliament in March 2006.
The Party of Regions, the Communist Party and the Socialist Party formed a majority in Parliament in July 2006, while Ms Tymoshenko announced that her bloc would form the opposition. The Our Ukraine party joined the opposition in November 2006.
