China banned exports of sand to protect the environment
China has decided to ban on the export of sand beach from March 1 to protect the environment, according to a recent notice issued jointly by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs.
exports of all natural sand, except the oil containing metal ores, will be prohibited, said the notice.
Due to international demand growing, exports of beach sand from China are rising rapidly, which has created enormous pressures on its ocean resources.
The Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs were originally proposed on 1 May 2006 as the date of entry into force of the ban, but eventually the reporter on 1 March 2007 , the national mining companies have requested more time to adjust their activities.
