The Chinese foreign minister meets with Secretary of State U.S. Assistant
Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing held talks Sunday with John Negroponte, Deputy Secretary of State American visiting China.
Li Zhaoxing appreciated the efforts of Mr. Negroponte in promoting Sino-US relations and expressed sympathy and condolences to the American people hit by recent cyclone before their talks behind closed doors.
is the first official visit of John Negroponte abroad after being appointed as Assistant Secretary of State February 27.
During his stay he will also meet with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan.
Beijing is the second leg of his tour in Asia after Japan. Then he will visit Republic of Korea.
His Asian tour aims to discuss the issue of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula with the countries concerned.
